What it does

Add fields to individual products: text, long text, dropdown, date, file upload. Mark them required or optional. The customer fills them in when they add the product to cart. Their answers show up in the order detail in your dashboard, on the kitchen ticket, and in any printed receipt.

Made-to-order businesses where each order has different requirements. Cake studios (recipient name, age, message). Florists (card message, occasion). Engravers and personalisation merchants. Pharmacies (patient name and date of birth). Tutors and consultants (preferred date and topic). Any service that needs more than just "what" the customer is buying.

How it works

  1. On any product, add a custom field — pick its type (text, dropdown, date, file).
  2. Set the label, the placeholder hint, and whether it's required.
  3. The customer fills it at the point of adding to cart. Answers flow into the order detail.

When to use it

Use custom fields the moment your WhatsApp messages start asking the same question every time. If you find yourself replying "what name should I put on the cake?" three times a day, that question belongs on the product page as a required field.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have different fields on different products?

Yes — fields are per-product. A custom-cake product asks for recipient name; a generic cupcake doesn't.

Can customers upload an image (e.g. for engraving)?

Yes — file upload fields support images and PDFs. Useful for personalisation merchants.

Will the answer print on the receipt?

Yes — kitchen tickets and printed receipts show field answers so the team knows what to prepare.

Can fields be conditional?

Basic conditional logic (show field X if dropdown Y = "yes") is supported. More complex flows can be built using Custom Pages with embedded forms.

Are custom-field answers searchable in the dashboard?

Yes — order search includes custom field values. Useful for "find all orders with allergy notes" or "find orders for John's Birthday".
