Operations

Tickets, receipts, and invoices — printed on the right printer at the right moment.

A new order arrives. The kitchen ticket prints on the kitchen printer. The customer receipt prints at the counter. The invoice gets emailed. All automatic, all configurable, all on your branding.

What it does

WhatsMenu prints to any thermal receipt printer that speaks ESC/POS — Epson, Xprinter, Sunmi, and similar. Multi-printer routing sends each section of the order to its right destination: drinks to the bar, hot food to the kitchen, full receipt to the counter. Receipts and invoices use the built-in custom editor — drop in your logo, your wording, your tax ID, your terms. Different layouts for receipt vs invoice vs kitchen ticket.

Who it's for

Restaurants and cafés (kitchen tickets + customer receipts), retail shops (counter receipts + supplier invoices), clinics (appointment receipts + tax-compliant invoices), bakeries (production tickets + delivery dockets), and any merchant whose customers expect a paper trail. Online-only merchants who never see a customer in person can skip this — they get email PDF invoices instead.

How it works

  1. Connect a thermal printer once — USB, Bluetooth, or network. Most ESC/POS printers from Epson, Xprinter, Sunmi work without configuration.
  2. Set up the layout in the custom invoice editor — logo, header text, line-item formatting, footer terms, optional tax ID for compliance.
  3. When orders arrive, prints fire automatically based on the rules you set (kitchen vs counter vs full bill). For online orders, the customer receives a PDF version by email.

When to use it

Use Order Printing the moment your order volume justifies a printer rather than handwritten tickets. For pure online stores without an in-person counter, email PDF receipts handle most needs and physical printers can wait.

Frequently asked questions

Which printers work with WhatsMenu?

Any ESC/POS-compatible thermal printer in 80mm or 58mm format. Tested with Epson TM-series, Xprinter XP-series, Sunmi cloud printers, and most generic printers from common ASEAN suppliers. Network and USB both supported.

Can I customise what the printout looks like?

Yes — the built-in invoice editor lets you control logo, header text, font weights, item layout, tax breakdowns, footer notes, and your business reg / tax ID. Different layouts can be set per document type (receipt, invoice, kitchen ticket).

Can I route different parts of an order to different printers?

Yes. Items tagged for kitchen go to the kitchen printer; items tagged for bar go to the bar printer; the full bill prints at the counter. Configurable per category or product.

Are the invoices tax-compliant?

Layouts include the fields most tax authorities require: business reg number, tax registration ID, line-item breakdown, tax amount, totals. For specific compliance regimes (Malaysia e-invoice, Singapore IRAS, Indonesia e-faktur), pair with the relevant integration module — JomeInvoice and MyInvois are supported for Malaysia.

What if my printer goes offline?

Failed prints queue and retry. You see the failed-print queue in your dashboard and can manually re-print or print to a different connected printer. Online orders always get an email PDF backup so customers receive their order details regardless of physical-printer status.
